A video-interview with a renowned expert from the CORONADX project answers common questions about virus variants and evolution.

We have all heard of variants, but we may not know why it is important to track them once the pandemic is over and how the evolution of a virus is tracked.

We asked Christoph Steininger, one of the researchers working in the EU research project CORONADX, to shed some light on this topic.

Christoph Steininger is Professor of Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna and expert in virology and internal medicine. He has in-depth knowledge of infectious diseases and immunology and has numerous publications in international journals.

Thanks to his scientific achievements, he has been awarded with the Abbott Diagnostic Award of the European Society of Clinical Virology, in 2005, and the Younger Research Award of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, in 2007, which are considered the most prestigious prizes in the fields of virology and infectious diseases.

Professor Steininger's current research focus is the viral microbiome and virus evolution.

His research group is involved in CORONADX project to perform epidemiological studies.
