Narva’s cultural tourism development strategy

March 30th, 2022

In January 2022, the City of Narva developed a cultural tourism strategy and an action plan that are going to last until 2027. The first action, a workshop involving the local stakeholders, took place in February 2022 and a new collaboration with Tallin University blossomed.

Narva, in Estonia, has a deep history and a rich heritage embracing both culture and nature. However, the main direction of tourism in Narva is cultural. As part of the tourism development strategy, the City of Narva is organising a series of workshops involving the local communities in cultural tourism development in their area. The main stakeholders involved in these activities, other than local community members, are: organizations directly involved in the tourism sector, partners from a related project, Finnish experts (as Finnish market is one of the main target markets for tourism development), governmental structures at the city and regional level.

The first planned workshop took place on the 23rd of February 2022 and quite a lot of interesting actions were proposed by the attendees to be implemented in Narva. However, the main focus of these actions is on the territory of Krenholm: a former industrial area that has the potential to be turned into a tourist centre. Representative of youth organizations will be involved in the next meetings.

Narva Pilot attracted a Tallinn consulting firm to assist with the development of Narva's cultural tourism strategy and action plan. A close collaboration with Tallinn University is part of the development strategy and the university is also working on the implementation of a project to foster the development of cultural tourism: SPOT.

Narva's tourism development strategy and implemented activities aim to find innovative solutions that can be shared with the other TExTOUR's pilots to grow together.
