ASTRO names radiologist, ABR president Society's 2010 Honorary Member

July 26th, 2010

The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) has named N. Reed Dunnick, M.D., a distinguished leader in the field of diagnostic radiology, as its 2010 Honorary Member, which is the highest honor the Society bestows upon distinguished cancer researchers and leaders in disciplines other than radiation oncology, radiation physics or radiobiology. Dr. Dunnick will be recognized with this honor during the Awards Ceremony at ASTRO's 52nd Annual Meeting, taking place October 31 - November 4, 2010, at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego.

Dr. Dunnick is the Fred Jenner Hodges Professor and chair of the University of Michigan Department of Radiology in Ann Arbor, Mich, and an American Board of Radiology certified diagnostic radiologist. He has previously held academic appointments at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., and Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, Calif.

Current president of the American Board of Radiology and a past president of the Academy of Radiology Research, American Roentgen Ray Society, Association of University Radiologists, Michigan Radiological Society and Society of Uroradiology, Dr. Dunnick has been heavily involved with professional societies throughout his career. For his service he was awarded the Gold Medal for Distinguished Service by the American Roentgen Ray Society and the Gold Medal from the Society of Uroradiology and was named a fellow by the American College of Radiology and the Society of Uroradiology.

"Dr. Dunnick has devoted much of his professional career to bridging the gap between diagnostic radiology and radiation oncology, and in addition to being a greatly revered and accomplished member of his own specialty, is a friend of radiation oncology," Anthony Zietman, M.D., ASTRO president and a radiation oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, said. "ASTRO is proud to recognize Dr. Dunnick as an Honorary Member of the Society."
