World Green City Award for the Peynircioglu Ecological Corridor Project in the frontrunner city of Izmir!

URBAN GreenUP frontrunner city of Izmir was awarded as one of the three finalists of the AIPH World Green City Awards under the Climate Change category

The AIPH World Green City Awards 2022 are designed to give recognition to pioneering nature-based approaches to city design and operation, focusing on initiatives relying on a greater use of nature to create better city environments.

The Peynircioglu Ecological Corridor, was implemented by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality within the URBAN GreenUP project and made it to the top 3 projects under the 'Climate Change' category. The other finalist cities were Melbourne, Australia and Mexico City, Mexico (the winner). The award ceremony was held in Jeju, Republic of Korea.

The Peynircioglu Ecological Corridor is a green belt stretching over an area of 41,000 m2 with the aim to reunite the city and the nature, create a sustainable and resilient city and to tackle the challenges of the climate change by implementing Nature Based Solutions.
