Sturgeon, paddlefish scientists from North America to meet Aug. 31-Sept. 2 in Montana

More than 120 sturgeon and paddlefish scientists and enthusiasts from throughout North America will gather Aug. 31 through Sept. 2 in Bozeman and at Chico Hot Springs in Montana.

This will be the third annual meeting of the North American Chapter of the World Sturgeon Conservation Society and the largest gathering of scientists that study sturgeon and paddlefish in North America.

The meeting will begin in Bozeman, Mont., with two workshops and a tour at the Bozeman Fish Technology Center on Tuesday, Aug. 31. A workshop on sturgeon conservation genetics will run from 9 a.m. to noon. A workshop on sturgeon age estimation and tagging techniques will run from 1 to 4 p.m. A tour of the Fish Technology Center will run from 4 to 5 p.m.

On Sept. 1 and 2, the group will gather at Chico Hot Springs (north of Yellowstone National Park) for the presentation of scientific papers on sturgeon and paddlefish.

Meeting organizers are Chris Guy from Montana State University and Molly Webb from the Bozeman Fish Technology Center. Both are committee members for the North American Chapter of the World Sturgeon Conservation Society, which was founded in 2008 by a group of sturgeon biologists and managers from the United States and Canada.
