American Academy of Pediatrics conference Oct. 2-5 in San Francisco

Thousands of pediatricians from around the country will meet in San Francisco October 2-5 for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference and Exhibition (NCE) at the Moscone Center. Journalists will find timely story angles, expert interviews and background on children's health issues from bullying to obesity.

Media highlights include:

  • Richard Louv, author of "Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder," will deliver the keynote address on Saturday, Oct. 2.
  • Paul Offit, MD, FAAP, author of "Autism's False Prophets" will discuss the anti-vaccine movement in a plenary address on Monday, Oct. 4.
  • The AAP will release new recommendations on treating and preventing iron deficiency during a news conference scheduled for the morning of Monday, Oct. 4.

- More than 600 scientific abstracts will be presented on topics including breastfeeding, emergency medicine, injury prevention, mental health, obesity and pediatric surgery.

Journalists will have access to hundreds of sessions where they can hear about the latest research, treatment options and controversies in children's health care. Educational sessions feature national experts in adolescent medicine, immunology, autism, social media, dermatology, learning disabilities, environmental health, neonatology, nutrition, sports medicine and other specialities.
