Virtual Viewbox offers portable radiology access for physicians
Physicians now have access to real time radiology services virtually anywhere, anytime. The new Virtual Viewbox (patent pending) is a portable interface system that delivers images, electronic medical records (EMR), and specialist consultation to physicians using any internet-ready device. Virtual Viewbox ensures HIPAA and HITECH compliance in transmitting patient information and offers a timely solution to the newly activated federal incentive for physicians to implement EMR.
While existing technologies offer teleradiology services for facilities or hospital systems, Virtual Viewbox is the first of its kind designed specifically for physicians. It streamlines the process of sharing patient information by collating old and new patient records created by any PACS (picture archiving and communications systems) into a single listing. Virtual Viewbox also enables physicians to conduct virtual side-by-side consultations with a master radiologist.
"Virtual Viewbox is like satellite television - it allows physicians to view the programs from all imaging centers on one screen," says Dr. Douglas Smith, MD, founder and CEO of Musculoskeletal Imaging Consultants (MSKIC) and creator of Virtual Viewbox. "Virtual Viewbox caters to physicians by giving them comprehensive radiology services in the palm of their hands."
The Utah Connection
MSKIC and its partner, Salt Lake MRI (SLMRI), are launching their proprietary Virtual Viewbox today at the Utah State Orthopaedic Society's Annual Meeting with a demonstration highlighting how Virtual Viewbox is used to provide state-of-the-art care for Olympic athletes. SLMRI is an official medical provider and Dr. Smith is a team physician for the U.S. Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding Team.
Today's conference attendees will be given first-hand experience in a simulated 'worldwide consultation session' using TeleradPAD™'s (customized Apple iPAD® running the Virtual Viewbox) to see how the U.S. Ski Team physicians and trainers use Virtual Viewbox for simultaneous online medical consultations from around the world. "I am always concerned when our athletes travel," says Adam Perreault, Head Athletic Trainer for the U.S. Men's Alpine Ski Team. "While I'm traveling with the team in Europe, this system ensures that they will be evaluated and treated with great care."
