In a special profile section, inRegister magazine celebrated 20 local, inspiring women, including Dr. Prachi Singh, associate professor and director for Pennington Biomedical's Sleep and Cardiometabolic Health.

In the section, inRegister said, "The women in these pages are mentors, role models, advocates and successful professionals who inspire the people around them every day."

inRegister highlighted that Dr. Singh encourages everyone, especially women, to take better care of themselves by making time to sleep and recognize when they may need help as it relates to overall wellness, including mental and cardiovascular health. As a mentor, Dr. Singh has a strong record of advising students from diverse backgrounds and says she would love to see more young people choose science as a career path.

"Dr. Singh is representative of the talented, dedicated researchers here at Pennington Biomedical, and her recent receipt of a $3.7M NIH grant to study reduced sleep and intermittent fasting is a testament to her skills as a top scientist," said Dr. John Kirwan, Executive Director of Pennington Biomedical Research Center. "She truly is one of the inspiring women among our team and in the community, and we are pleased to see her highlighted."

Dr. Singh received a Ph.D. in botany/molecular biology from the Central Drug Research Institute, University of Lucknow, in India, and bachelor's and master's degrees in botany from the University of Delhi. She joined Pennington Biomedical in July 2019, after holding various roles at the Mayo Clinic.
