PAL-MED CONNECT partners with Briefings in Palliative, Hospice, and Pain Medicine & Management
Briefings in Palliative, Hospice, and Pain Medicine & Management, the e-newsletter companion to Journal of Palliative Medicine published by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. (www.liebertpub.com), is pleased to announce a collaboration with The Institute for Palliative Medicine's (www.palliativemed.org) PAL-MED CONNECT (http://palmedconnect.org/) hotline to create a new monthly feature for the e-newsletter. Each month, Briefings will now include a valuable case study focusing on patients with advanced pain and symptom management challenges, or chronic or life-threatening illness.
Briefings will present practical, clinical case studies encountered by callers to PAL-MED CONNECT. Anticipated subjects include pain management, safety and efficacy of opioids, opioid conversion, neuropathic pain symptoms, difficult family conversations, decision-making about NG tubes, and other key topics. The studies will initially appear on the last Wednesday of each month with the potential for them to appear more frequently based on reader response. The first case study (http://www.liebertpub.com/palliative/archive/2010/Sept_10/Sept_29_10.htm) was published on September 29, 2010.
The PAL-MED CONNECT hotline is a grant-funded hotline that provides free access for healthcare professionals seeking expertise and educational resources related to palliative care and complex symptom management. The hotline can be accessed by physicians, physician assistants, nurse practioners, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Callers speak directly clinician to expert clinician, at no charge. The hotline is available at 1-877-PAL-MED4.
"This California based hotline is gaining attention from healthcare professionals nationwide. Healthcare professionals utilize the hotline when complex symptoms arise. We provide them with information on options for care and evidence based resources," states Charles von Gunten, MD, PhD, Provost of The Institute for Palliative Medicine.
