Energy communities and impact on grids: A new publication from ETIP SNET discusses opportunities and challenges
In collaboration with ISGAN, ETIP SNET Working Group 1 on reliable, economic and efficient energy system has released a report about the multifaceted role and challenges of energy communities in the modern energy landscape.
Entitled "Energy Communities' Impact on Grids", the paper emphasises the need for systemic changes in legislation, market structures, grid architecture, and stakeholder engagement to drive the energy transition. It concludes with some recommendations on innovation and research activities to ensure convergence of R&D results and enable the development of fully integrated energy communities.
Such energy communities extend beyond merely generating renewable electricity or heat, addressing environmental, technological, and economic aspects while tackling social equity issues.
The discussion on this relevant topic will continue during the Paris Session of CIGRE 2024. CIGRE is a collaborative global community committed to the knowledge development program for the creation and sharing of power system expertise. Paris Session 2024 from August 25 to 30 is the leading global event to discuss energy transition's issues and that offers global networking opportunities.
During the side event organised by ETIP SNET Secretariat and ISGAN, the discussion amongst energy experts will delve into the role of energy communities for distribution system operators (DSOs) and transmission system operators (TSOs). It will explore how energy communities can harness consumer flexibility to better integrate renewable resources and new technologies while fulfilling their responsibilities and obligations.
Read the whole publication "Energy Communities' Impact on Grids" and register to attend the side event online or in person.
