Experts present new testing methods at international meeting in New Orleans, Nov. 14-18

International experts and scientists will present new testing tools ranging from extending the shelf life of stockpiled drugs to identifying unlabeled substances in popular slimming products. This research is part of the 2010 International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Pharmaceutical Sciences World Congress (PSWC) in association with the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Annual Meeting and Exposition in New Orleans, La., Nov. 14-18.

Highlights include:

The use of common household appliances, such as a coffee grinder, to test the tamper- resistant properties of drugs containing opium;
A new method of testing drugs sold over the Internet, including herbal slimming products; and;
A poster session on retesting the shelf life of stockpiled drugs for emergency responders.

For the first time, FIP's PSWC and the AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition will join to hold the world's largest pharmaceutical sciences meeting to improve global health through advances in pharmaceutical sciences. An estimated 10,000 scientists from more than 60 countries will participate in 100 sessions, including 40 symposia and roundtables.
