Save the Date: Circular Construction Hubs Kick Off

May 21st, 2025

On 23 May and 6 June RECONSTRUCT's Circular Construction Hubs will be launched in Barcelona and Brussels with workshops and presentations open to all players in the construction value chain.

As part of the RECONSTRUCT Horizon Europe project, two Circular Territorial Hubs have been set up in Barcelona and Brussels. These regional networks aim to involve all stakeholders of the local construction value chain, to generate and explore multiple opportunities for cross-sectoral industrial symbiosis. The first physical meeting of the Spanish and Belgian Circular Construction Hubs will take place in Barcelona on 23 May and in Brussels on 6 June.

The Spanish Hub: Digitisation and impact assessment

The Spanish hub will kick off on 23 May at the IteC premises. After an overview of the Hub's objectives, the focus will be on workflows and digital tools developed as part of RECONSTRUCT, paying special attention to building materials passports. Participants will then have the opportunity to interact and share their own perspectives and expertise in the dedicated workshops. The first one will address the circularity impact of buildings, exploring which indicators are most useful for each type of stakeholder and the challenges in evaluating them. During the second one, participants, divided in two working groups (Circular Concrete & Construction and Demolition Waste and Digitisation & Impact Assessments) will create the Dynamic Learning Agenda for the Hub. The event will be held in Spanish.

The Belgian Hub: Digital needs and challenges

The launch of the Belgian hub will take place on 6 June at the Embuild premises as part of EU Green Week 2025. The event will showcase a range of digital tools designed to support building professionals on their journey towards a more circular economy. Initially, the focus will be on the role of data and digital tools in the European net-zero building agenda, with a presentation on the data, formats and workflows that have been developed. The state of the art in digital passports and 6D-BIM models will then be briefly discussed, followed by a presentation on the various digital transformation journeys in the construction sector. Importantly, participants will have the opportunity to interact and share their own perspectives and expertise during two workshops. Firstly, they will be invited to share their organisation's digital needs and challenges. Then, in a second dedicated workshop, they will explore how the RECONSTRUCT tools can add value to their daily practice. The event will be held in English.

RECONSTRUCT is an EU co-funded Horizon project running from June 2023 to May 2027. It involves 14 partners from 5 EU countries and the UK. RECONSTRUCT demo buildings aim to employ 50% virgin content; 80% reusable/recyclable content; nearly 100% locally available content; 0% construction and demolition waste to landfill, and a better material-to-surface ratio than conventional buildings.
