POINT releases two video interviews with coordinator and partners on long-term COVID research
Project leaders share pioneering biomarker strategies for early prediction, prevention and personalised patient care
The project POINT has unveiled two video interviews featuring the project coordinator and two leading partners, offering insights into the long-term health impacts of COVID-19 and the innovative strategies POINT is pioneering to predict, prevent and personalise patient care.
Prof. Evangelios Giamarellos-Bourboulis (Hellenic Institute for the studies of Sepsis) explores POINT's research focus:
"Beyond studying patients already suffering from long-COVID, we're investigating whether asymptomatic survivors might later develop chronic organ dysfunction—like heart, kidney, or leg issues—that has never before been addressed."
This novel approach promises to redefine our understanding of post-COVID sequelae and open new paths for early diagnosis.
The second interview brings in the voices of the coordinator Claus Desler (University of Copenhagen) and another partner, Ove Andersen from Region Hovedstaden, who discuss how POINT will guide prevention efforts:
"By combining biomarkers and clinical science from the outset of infection, we can predict which patients are at risk of long-term complications—and intervene early to prevent chronic diseases," they explain.
Viewers will also learn why there's no need for alarm: POINT's evidence-based tools will equip healthcare professionals to monitor risk effectively, ensuring survivors and their families can move forward with confidence.
Finally, the interviews delve into the most promising biomarkers—both "wet" (blood-based) and "dry" (patient-reported data)—and how a multi-marker panel will give clinicians a comprehensive picture of long-COVID risk long before symptoms appear.
