Ananth Annapragada, Ph.D., Robert H. Graham Professor in Entrepreneurial Biomedical Informatics and Biomedical Engineering at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), has been nominated to the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.

Annapragada, who is on the faculty at the UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics, will be inducted during the AIMBE's 20th annual event, "Medical and Biological Engineering in the Next 20 Years: The Promise and Challenges," Feb. 20-22 in Washington, D.C. He will be among 1,000 fellows who are outstanding bioengineers in academic, industry and government. These leaders in the field have distinguished themselves through their contributions to research, industrial practice and/or education.

Fellows are nominated each year by their peers and represent the top 2 percent of the medical and biological engineering community. They are considered the lifeblood of AIMBE and work toward realizing the institute's vision to provide medical and biological engineering innovation for the benefit of humanity.

Annapragada is the founder of two start-up companies, Cense Biosciences, Inc. and Marval Biosciences, Inc. Cense's lead product candidate, BrioDurance ™, senses glucose and releases insulin during times of hyperglycemia. Marval Biosciences, Inc. is developing the next generation of contrast agents for use in X-ray and computed tomography (CT) imaging.

"Dr. Annapragada richly deserves this honor, as he is both very innovative and forward thinking in his research. He also excels at mentorship and entrepreneurship.
