Nutrient recycling project to present its findings in Brussels in February

Nutrient recycling WalNUT project will present its findings on 5 February 2026 (09:00–17:30) at the Representation of the European Region Tyrol–South Tyrol–Trentino, Rue de Pascale 45–47, Brussels.

WalNUT is a Horizon 2020 project focused on developing circular solutions for nutrient recovery from wastewater. As the project comes to a close, its final event will bring together project partners, European policymakers, researchers, industry representatives and sister initiatives to showcase WalNUT's results and discuss future directions for nutrient recycling and wastewater resource recovery in Europe.

The day will follow a structured programme designed to showcase WalNUT's achievements, highlight policy perspectives, and explore practical solutions for sustainable nutrient management:

Morning Programme

· Welcome and overview of WalNUT's vision, pilot activities, and key outcomes

· European Commission perspective on wastewater and nutrient recovery

· Policy spotlight & high-level debate on the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD), including challenges, opportunities, and next steps with contributions from leading experts and EU institutions

· Technological solutions for nutrient recovery, showcasing approaches developed and tested within WalNUT

· Introduction of the WalNUT nutrient digital platform, turning data into actionable insights for stakeholders

Afternoon Programme

· Partner roundtable: translating project results into real-world impact

· Presentation of the WalNUT White Paper, highlighting key messages for policy and practice

· Synergies beyond WalNUT: featuring sister projects advancing sustainable nutrient management and circular economy solutions across Europe

The day will close with wrap-up remarks and a networking aperitivo, offering participants the opportunity to exchange ideas and celebrate the achievements of the WalNUT project.
