Conference program: Energy systems and energy technologies for the next century

January 7th, 2011

The energy Conference addresses the overriding energy dilemma that points well into the next century: Energy is needed for sustainable growth in the world economy after the financial crisis. There must also be created access to energy for the two billion poorest people in the world, that today only have energy from firewood.

At the same time climate change must be kept on a tight rein, in order to keep global temperature raise below two degrees C.

Towards the next century it is necessary to make radical reductions in global CO2 emissions. But it must be done in a way that also allows economic growth and social welfare for all citizens.

The goal can not be achieved by simple technology development of today's energy systems. There is a need for radical restructuring to create intelligent energy systems that can accommodate far more fluctuating energy from sun and wind than today's energy systems. At the same time there is a need to exploit and develop all forms of sustainable energy technologies.

How it can be done will be discussed at Risø International Energy Conference 2011.

The conference is aimed at scientists, energy industry as well as governments and organizations in the energy sector worldwide. About 150 participants are expected.

This comprehensive program is now available. It contains 17 sessions with approximately 70 lectures and poster presentations.

The sessions:

  • Scenarios and Policy
  • Energy Systems
  • Smart grids
  • Sustainable energy planning
  • Economic planning of energy systems with low CO2 emissions
  • Energy without CO2 emissions
  • Energy for developing countries
  • Mechanisms and Markets
  • Wind Energy
  • Bioenergy
  • Fuel Cells and Hydrogen
  • Energy Saving
  • Efficiency Improvements
