NASA's Orbital Debris Program -- March 9-10 workshop
Space scientists are increasingly concerned about thousands of pieces of "space junk" -- abandoned equipment, paint fragments, and other debris orbiting Earth that could cause significant damage if they collide with satellites or space missions. At this two-day workshop, a National Research Council committee examining NASA's program for tracking and mitigating risks from orbital debris and micrometeoroids will hear from government and industry experts. Topics include the risks orbital debris could pose to robotic missions, opportunities for NASA to work with other government agencies and industry, and methods for removing orbital debris.
DETAILS:
The workshop will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 9 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 10 at the Mason Inn and Conference Center, 4532 Mason Pond Drive, Fairfax, Va.
