Meeting the challenge of decontaminating and detoxifying wastewater from oilsands

(PhysOrg.com) -- Mohamed Gamal El-Din is working on the sustainable oilsands tailings water management project.

The third in a video series introducing the 12 research co-ordinators of the Helmholtz Alberta Initiative features Mohamed Gamal El-Din, who is working on the sustainable oilsands tailings water management project. In this video he discusses the challenges of decontaminating and detoxifying wastewater from the oilsands industry.

The Helmholtz Alberta Initiative is a major international partnership aiming to find solutions to challenges in oilsands and coal production that face society, science and industry. There are now six active research themes that encompass the initiative: bitumen and lignite upgrading, carbon capture, carbon storage, geothermal energy, sustainable oilsands water management, and mine site reclamation and landscape development.
