Louisiana Tech professor to chair international information technology, systems conference

March 3rd, 2011

Dr. Sumeet Dua, associate professor of computer science and coordinator of information technology research at Louisiana Tech University, will serve as the program chair for the 5th Conference on Information Systems, Technology and Management, March 10-12, in Gurgaon, India.

The annual conference seeks to assemble some of the world's premier developers, users, academicians and researchers in the information technology and business community to share and explore new areas of research and development.

"We are amidst an information age where the rate of growth and complexity of data collected is growing exponentially fueling demands for effective and efficient information management, technology and systems solutions," said Dua.

"This conference aims to bring together researchers, developers and practitioners from around the world, in academia and industry, for sharing state-of-the-art results and for exploring new areas of research and development in these areas of the emerging knowledge economy."

In addition to chairing the program, Dua will also give a keynote address titled, "Associative Learning Algorithmic Frameworks in Data Mining."

Thirty-nine papers were selected for presentation at this year's conference after a rigorous peer-review process of submissions that came from scientists and academician all over the world. An international program committee consisting of 13 track chairs and 113 program committee members from 21 countries assisted in the selection process.

The papers focus on topics in information management, information systems, information technology, healthcare information management and technology, business intelligence, applications, and management science and education, and will appear in a proceedings published by Springer Publishing.

"I was honored to be invited by the conference General Chairs to serve as the Program Chair. It has indeed been an intensive, but rewarding experience," Dua said. "The involvement of faculty members and researchers from Louisiana Tech in the program committee of the conference has increased Tech's exposure to a broader international scientific and management research and student community."

According to the conference's website, organizations today need to convert data into knowledge and blend it with sensing and innovation in order to generate intelligence and hence, business value. Greater skills are required by providers and end users to harness the true potential of these innovative technologies.

The conference organizers include the Management Development Institute in India, the University of Florida, and the Grenoble Ecole de Management in France.
