UM College of Arts and Sciences student is awarded AACR-Thomas J. Bardos Science Education Award

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) will recognize 27 recipients of the AACR-Thomas J. Bardos Science Education Award for Undergraduate Students at the AACR 102nd Annual Meeting 2011, held in Orlando, FL from April 2 to 6.

University of Miami College of Arts and Sciences student Raul Caso (Microbiology and Immunology) has won an AACR-Thomas J. Bardos Science Education Award for Undergraduate Students. His current research is titled "Tumor microenvironment induces profound immune suppression: Macrophages from peripheral and tumor locations differ in their degrees of inflammatory impairment."

The primary purpose of the AACR-Thomas J. Bardos Science Education Award for Undergraduate Students is to inspire science students at the undergraduate level to enter the field of cancer research.

The AACR is committed to promoting the education and training of the next generation of dedicated scientists, and to facilitating and nurturing their careers in cancer research or cancer-related biomedical science. Since its founding in 1997, AACR Science Education Awards have been supported by generous annual contributions from a distinguished member of the AACR, Dr. Thomas J. Bardos. His contributions are subsequently matched by those of AACR.
