Nation's pediatric otolaryngologists to convene in Chicago, April 27-May 1

April 21st, 2011

The American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology (ASPO) will hold its annual meeting, April 29 - May 1, during the 2011 Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings (COSM) - a joint meeting of eight otolaryngological societies in Chicago, IL. The meeting will feature dozens of scientific presentations highlighting research in progress in the field of otolaryngology - head and neck surgery. The meetings will take place at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers and will house scientific sessions, as well as scientific and technical exhibits.

During the ASPO meeting, hundreds of pieces of new research will be presented focusing on children's ear, nose, and throat health. National health statistics reveal that pediatric ear, nose, and throat disorders remain among the primary reasons children visit a physician, with ear infections ranking as the number one reason for an appointment. New research topics to be presented at the ASPO meeting include:

  • Cochlear implants in infants under 6 months old
  • Heavy metals exposure and hearing loss in adolescents
  • Pediatric exposure to choking hazards campaign
  • Tonsillectomy treatment for pediatric patients
  • Complications of otitis media
COSM typically attracts more than 1,200 otolaryngologist - head and neck surgeons. The COSM program includes guest lectures by prominent leaders in surgery; numerous courses and scientific sessions and dozens of papers reflecting research related to current issues in the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of otolaryngology-related conditions.
