Elsevier announces launch of Swarm and Evolutionary Computation

May 5th, 2011

Elsevier, the world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, announced today the launch Swarm and Evolutionary Computation (www.elsevier.com/locate/swevo). The journal aims at reporting the most recent research and developments in the area of nature-inspired intelligent computation based on the principles of swarm and evolutionary algorithms.

Swarm and Evolutionary Computation publishes advanced, innovative, and interdisciplinary research involving the theoretical, experimental, and practical aspects of the two paradigms and their hybridizations. It will be committed to the timely publication of very high-quality, peer-reviewed, original articles that advance the state-of-the art of all aspects of evolutionary computation and swarm intelligence.

The editorial board is led by Editors-in-Chief, Professor Swagatam Das of Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India and Professor Ponnuthurai Nagaratnam Suganthan of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

"A keen observation of the underlying relation of optimization and biological evolution led to the development of a new paradigm of computational intelligence - the evolutionary computing technique - for solving nearly intractable search and optimization problems," stated Professor Das. "On the other hand, algorithms and methodologies under the discipline of swarm intelligence are founded on the intelligent collective behavior of a population of simple agents, natural or artificial, individually each of which is much less capable than the group as a whole. The fields of evolutionary computing and swarm intelligence can very well complement each other and there already has been a good trend of hybridizing the algorithms from both the domains."

"We believe that the research with swarm intelligence and evolutionary computing algorithms will continue to receive an increasing attention of researchers from diverse domains," commented Professor Suganthan. "Thus, there is the need for the first peer-reviewed journal for publishing advanced, innovative and interdisciplinary research for these fields with balanced focus on theory, experimentation and practical applications of closely related areas of swarm and evolutionary computation as well as their hybridizations."
