Expert panel: The importance of interdisciplinary collaborations in new climate change solutions
The scientific concept of the 'Anthropocene' has captured headlines lately. This idea that human beings have so altered the planet that we have created a new geological age puts matters into jarring perspective. Climate change is a significant part of this phenomenon. The effects of climate change will be global and systemic, requiring holistic solutions that demand close interaction among physical and life scientists, economists, sociologists, and policy-makers.
On June 1, 2011, the New York Academy of Sciences and Wiley's Interdisciplinary Reviews: Climate Change will present "Climate Change, Science and Society: A Multidisciplinary Discussion". The event will take place at the Academy from 6:00 pm𔃆:00 pm with a networking reception to follow.
David Rind of NASA/GISS will discuss his research using climate models to predict future impacts; Steve Rose of EPRI will speak about the economic impacts of climate change; Lauren Chambliss of Cornell will share her experiences communicating environmental issues to policy makers; and finally the speakers will participate in a moderated discussion about how their disciplines must come together to address and illuminate the problem of global climate change.
