Experts to speak about growth of NYC and implications for transportation policy and infrastructure

New York City's metropolitan region faces the prospect of significant growth in population and employment over the next two decades, given current forecasts. Although important to the region's economic vitality, if realized, this growth will present real mobility challenges, given current levels of transportation congestion throughout the region.

On June 7, 2011 The New York Academy of Sciences will present "Smart Growth around Transportation Hubs", a meeting on how the City can make efficient use of current and future infrastructure with the expectation of generating environmental and social benefits. Join panelists George Bogacz of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council and Peter Fleischer of Empire State Future, each with an in-depth knowledge of the 2010 Smart Growth Public Infrastructure Policy Act and a familiarity with the complexities of the decisions that need to be made. David King of Columbia University's Graduate School for Architecture Planning and Preservation will moderate.
