Media can now register for the world's largest scientific meeting for respiratory medicine
The 2011 European Respiratory Society Congress will take place at the Amsterdam RAI congress centre (www.rai.nl) from Saturday 24 September to Wednesday 28 September 2011.
The congress will build on the success of the previous ERS annual congresses and will be attended by the world's leading respiratory experts and professionals who will be presenting the latest cutting edge research in a large and varied scientific programme. Over 4,200 abstracts will cover areas such as paediatrics, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, tuberculosis, infections, genetics, biomarkers and pollution (both man-made and natural). At least 20,000 delegates from around the world are expected to attend the congress.
Here are examples of some of the new research to be presented at the Congress:
- Can a pregnant mother's occupational exposure to certain chemicals cause asthma in their children?
- New evidence on the role of cured meats, such as bacon and salami, in readmission to hospital for people with COPD
- What effect does living in damp river valleys have on lung problems?
- Goats and lung cancer in humans: is there an association?
- New research on the effect of soot from city air pollution on the lungs of cyclists and pedestrians
- Climate change: new evidence on the incidence of ozone-related deaths in Europe
- Europe-wide audit reveals gaps in COPD care across Europe
- How does alcohol affect the risk of asthma?
- New lung cancer test could prevent unnecessary surgery
- + much more.
Press conferences on the most exciting new research will be held throughout the congress. More information on the press conferences will be available nearer the time and contained in future media alerts.
The European Respiratory Society welcomes the interest of the press in respiratory issues and is happy to provide full assistance to journalists attending the 2011 ERS Congress, or using the congress website as a resource in their coverage of respiratory issues. A media centre and press working room will be available at the congress centre for your use.
