Springer launches new open access journal with Beijing Normal University

August 4th, 2011

Beijing Normal University and Springer are launching the International Journal of Disaster Risk Science (IJDRS). As a fully sponsored open access journal, it will be included in the SpringerOpen portfolio, available on Springer's online platform SpringerLink. The SpringerOpen model allows the journal's contents to be fully and immediately open access, available to anyone with an Internet connection. The journal is part of Springer's Chinese Library of Science (CLoS) collection, which comprises more than 90 English-language research journals from China.

The International Journal of Disaster Risk Science publishes research articles addressing theoretical and methodological issues in disaster science, emergency response technology, and risk management; large-scale disaster risk governance; and case studies and comparative research on responses to catastrophes. Its primary aim is to create an exchange platform where researchers, practitioners, and policy makers in the field of disaster risk can collaborate in order to improve the international, national and regional capacities for disaster risk analysis, management, and governance. The international editorial board, made up of renowned experts and scholars, guarantees the high academic standards of the articles and supports a rapid manuscript review process.

Peijun Shi, Editor-in-Chief of the IJDRS, said, "Recently, the global disaster risk community realized that issues of integrated risk governance will become increasingly relevant in the future. With this in mind, we launched the International Journal of Disaster Risk Science, which has a close link to our ongoing Integrated Risk Governance Project. We will strive to distribute high-quality research papers to the widest audience globally."

Lu Ye, Editorial Director China at Springer, said, "We are very glad to work with Beijing Normal University, which is very strong in geography and earth sciences, to publish this new SpringerOpen journal. With the commitment of both the editorial board and Springer, I am confident that the IJDRS will become a major China-based, international journal and will bring valuable research results to a global audience."
