University Hospitals Neuromuscular Center EMG labs awarded accreditation
The American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) has awarded accreditation status to four electromyography (EMG) laboratories affiliated with the University Hospitals (UH) Neuromuscular Center in Northeast Ohio.
The EMG labs at UH Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Oh., UH Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood, Oh., UH University Suburban Health Center in S. Euclid, Oh., and UH Westlake Health Center in Westlake, Oh., received accreditation. UH Case Medical Center is the first academic medical center (a teaching and research hospital) in Ohio to be accredited by AANEM.
The AANEM recently completed its review of the UH Neurological Institute's application for accreditation through the Electrodiagnostic Laboratory Accreditation Program and determined that the labs successfully met the accreditation standards.
Accreditation indicates demonstrated clinical excellence in electrodiagnostic (EDX) medicine to patients, referral sources and payers. It also confirms the labs' commitment to providing the highest quality healthcare.
One of 16 centers of excellence within the UH Neurological Institute, the Neuromuscular Center provides diverse testing, diagnosis and treatment labs to address the full range of neuromuscular conditions.
The EMG labs provide high-quality, state-of-the-art electrodiagnostic testing of neuromuscular disorders. EMG testing includes nerve conduction studies performed by EMG technologists under physician supervision and the muscle needle examination performed by the EMG physician. Computerized EMG machines are available at all EMG lab locations within the UH system. These machines enable lab personnel to perform detailed electrodiagnostic testing on every patient with instant report generation. Highly specialized testing such as single fiber EMG and quantitative testing are also offered.
