Extension Crops Specialist Sees 'Great' Apple Harvest

University of Maine Cooperative Extension educator Renee Moran says many Maine apple orchards are seeing another healthy crop this year, with slightly smaller apples in some regions of the state, compared with previous years.

Overall, she says, “I think it’s going to be a great apple year.”

Sunday, Sept. 11 is Maine Apple Sunday, and many orchards statewide will be open for picking.

Moran, a plant soil, pomology and environmental sciences specialist, is available today at UMaine in Orono to discuss the 2011 crop, and, as of Sept. 12, at Highmoor Farm in Monmouth at 933-2100.
