Hiroyoshi Fukuro, manager of the Nissan research centre and maybe one of the most important researchers behind the breakthrough of LCD screens will receive a honorary doctorate at the Faculty of Science at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Hiroyoshi Fukuro's contribution to the development and enormous breakthrough of the LCD technology is internationally recognised. The 57-year-old chemist is both the director of Nissan Chemical Industries, world leader within the LCD (liquid crystal displays) technology with yearly revenues of almost 15 000 million SEK, and the manager of the Nissan Electronic Material Research Laboratories. His honorary doctorate is a result of his long cooperation with researchers at the Department of Physics.

Close cooperation

Fukuro has cooperated closely with and contributed greatly to the research of the Liquid Crystal Group since 2002. Besides the invaluable service of offering necessary research material, Nissan has, through Fukuro, started a long-term research relationship with the objective to develop novel materials for the next generation of LCDs.

Organic screen technology

Fukuro's own research revolves around the development of materials for new types of screens, for example those based on organic light-emitting diodes. The research group's accomplishments and international recognition would not have been possible without Fukuro's active participation, according to Lachezar Komitov at the Department of Physics.
'It is a great honour to receive this recognition. I am very thankful', says Hiroyoshi Fukuro.
