National leader in nurse midwifery to present award

As part of the National Midwifery Week Celebration at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, Holly P. Kennedy, CNM, FACM, the president of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM), returns to her Rhode Island roots to present a "With Women for A Lifetime" commendation to the Women's Care Nurse-Midwives.

This national award recognizes nurse-midwifery practices that have provided innovative and compassionate midwifery care to families through expanded access, unique programs, and an ongoing commitment to nurse-midwifery education.

Along with this award presentation, scheduled for October 5, Dr. Kennedy will also give a breakfast talk from 7:30 to 9 am, in the hospital's South Pavilion entitled, "The Evidence for Preserving and Promoting Normal Physiologic Birth."

Dr. Kennedy is well known to the Rhode Island obstetric and midwifery community, having previously been a part of the academic nurse-midwifery service at Women & Infants. She was also a former director of the University of Rhode Island nurse Nurse-Midwifery program and now serves as the Helen Varney Professor of Midwifery at the Yale School of Nursing.
