It’s all in the mind - Why seeing is not always believing

Psychologists from the University of Abertay Dundee will present a free lecture on Thursday (3rd November) at 6pm as part of the Dundee Science Festival 2011.  The interactive lecture entitled ‘It’s all in the mind’ will investigate the psychology behind activities such as eyewitness testimony, how we encode, store and remember information and how our eyes and brain work together.

Derek Carson, Professor of Applied Cognition at Abertay, said, “Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and thought and can help us understand just about everything we do!  At this event we will be providing an insight into how memory works and specifically how memory underpins eyewitness testimony.

“This is a fascinating and very important research area which Abertay academics have been leading on for some time. Come along if you would like to learn about how some aspects of memory work, and how this knowledge can be applied in a forensic situation."

The lecture will include a number of demonstrations and interactive activities and is suitable for all ages.  The lecture will be held in Abertay’s Main Lecture Theatre (1516) in the Kydd Building and will run from 6.00 - 7.30 pm.
