Live from Newark: TEDxNJIT simulcast on Nov. 11 to viewers worldwide

November 3rd, 2011

The inaugural TEDxNJIT event takes place on Nov. 11, 2011 in the Jim Wise Theatre on the New Jersey Institute of Technology campus and via an accompanying live simulcast broadcast available to viewers worldwide. The independently organized event, licensed by TED, will focus on entrepreneurship and invention and will feature young people in the technology field. It will also bring together faculty and students to share their passion for innovation and entrepreneurship.

"The idea is to create an environment to spark new ideas and motivate students to follow through on their dreams," said student event organizer Kevin Ly. "We're also hoping to encourage entrepreneurship to have successful, marketable products and services to change the world." Ly, of West Orange, is a sophomore in NJIT's College of Science and Liberal Arts, majoring in biology. Event co-organizers also include seniors Chris Bogart, of Sayreville, and Hanni Abukhater, of Clifton, both mechanical engineering majors enrolled in the NJIT Newark College of Engineering.

The event in the Jim Wise Theatre on the NJIT campus is already sold out. One hundred tickets were initially made available.

TEDxNJIT follows other TEDx university events, such as those at Harvard and Princeton universities earlier this year. TEDxNJIT not only targets the NJIT community, but those at surrounding colleges and universities in Newark including: Rutgers, Essex County College and University of Medicine and Dentistry.

Confirmed speakers include Heath Ahrens, Chief Executive Officer iSpeech, a growing young tech company located in NJIT's Enterprise Development Center; Interim NJIT President Joel Bloom; NJIT Assistant Professor Michael Ehrlich; Matt Bishoff, an NJIT student, working at the start-up tech company Lickability.
