Global resource for clinical microbiologists and immunologists debuts

December 13th, 2011

The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) has launched a clinical microbiology web portal, http://clinmicro.asm.org, that focuses all of ASM's clinical and external relevant content into one user-friendly site.

"The portal will offer in one site a wealth of information needed for the day-to-day work of diagnostic microbiologists and immunologists," said J. Michael Miller, Ph.D., D(ABMM), the portal's architect. It was designed for clinical scientists and its content will be of value to bench technologists, supervisors, lab directors, and students said Miller, Director of Microbiology Technical Services, LLC., Dunwoody, GA.

Throughout the development process, the focus has been on ensuring the portal is flexible so it can quickly respond to constructive suggestions by its users and adjust to changes in the field. The portal's many interactive features allow users to access expert opinions, participate in monthly "hot topic" blog discussions, suggest additional resources, and comment on posted content. Users' feedback and comments will drive how the portal evolves to ensure it meets their needs.

Another ever-changing feature is the content of the landing page. It provides updates on the science of clinical microbiology, ASM, public policy pertaining to clinical laboratories and public health, and what's new to the portal. Centralizing this information will keep users informed, and the weekly updates on scientific advances will give them one more reason to visit the portal often. A calendar of events is also available, and users and other organizations are encouraged to submit upcoming events to share with others.
