Cost analysis of cloud computing for research published

EPSRC together with JISC have commissioned a report on the cost implications of Cloud computing for research. Cloud computing uses the economies of scale and virtualisation technologies to provide on-demand computing services.

The report draws on some of the pilot studies funded by EPSRC and JISC as well as extensive interviews with users of High Performance Computing (HPC) for research to provide guidance for researchers, institutions and reviewers of grant applications. The report makes five key recommendations for managing the complex pricing structures of Cloud computing compared to other HPC infrastructure.
