AmericanEHR partners welcomes AMA as newest member

May 16th, 2012

(Washington) AmericanEHR Partners today welcomed the nation's largest medical society, the American Medical Association (AMA), as its newest member. AmericanEHR Partners' primary objective is to provide comprehensive and trustworthy information to support clinicians in the selection and use of electronic health records.

AMA also takes a seat on the AmericanEHR Partners' Professional Society Advisory Group to provide input on education, collaborative initiatives and future development. The AMA joins the American College of Physicians (ACP) and 18 other organizations in supporting the program. The collaboration among the professional societies has been instrumental in the success of AmericanEHR as it has become a leading resource for physicians to access unbiased ratings and information about electronic health records systems and vendors.

"We are looking forward to AMA's active participation and we anticipate significant growth in terms of content, insights and membership from this partnership," said Dr. Alan Brookstone, CEO of Cientis Technologies and co-founder of AmericanEHR Partners. "The AMA plays a lead role as an advocate for the medical profession and the healthcare system as a whole."

"For more than 160 years, AMA has promoted scientific advancement. It has improved public health and invested in the doctor and patient relationship," said Michael A. Barr, senior vice president of ACP's division of Medical Practice, Professionalism and Quality. "The AMA's participation with AmericanEHR Partners will benefit the entire profession as we collectively try to enhance the health of individuals and populations through the appropriate use of health information technology."

AMA Chief Medical Information Officer Michael Hodgkins, MD, MPH explained, "Our decision to partner with AmericanEHR was based on providing an opportunity for AMA members to exchange ideas, and share valuable insights on the latest EHR technology with colleagues, professional societies, and other stakeholders in a collaborative environment whose objective is improving the value of this technology for both physicians and patients."
