Computers, Privacy & Data Protection Conference
You are kindly invited to the seventh edition of the 'Computers, Privacy & Data Protection' (CPDP) conference, to be held on 22-24 January 2014 in Brussels, Belgium. The conference will include panels covering all current debates in the field: the data protection reform in the European Union, PRISM, big data, privacy by design, cloud computing, biometrics, and e-health and will have special sessions on impact assessments, Roma empowerment in the digital era and other topics. Over 60 panels are scheduled.
In light of the great success of the CPDP conferences – which drew more than 650 participants last year – we are ready to exceed all expectations with the upcoming edition.
CPDP is non-profit and is one of the leading data protection and privacy conferences in Europe and the world. It attracts key members of the European Parliament, European Commission, companies such as Google, Microsoft, Deloitte, data protection authorities, academics, legal practitioners, representatives from the ICT sector and civil society. Confirmed speakers include: Ben Emmerson (UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism); Alex Joel (US Office of the Director of National Intelligence), Jan-Philipp Albrecht (Member of the European Parliament and rapporteur of the proposed EU Data Protection Regulation), Blair Stewart (Office of the Privacy Commissioner, New Zealand), Ian Brown (Oxford Internet Institute) and Richard Allan (Facebook).
CPDP2014 has become truly global: it is co-organized by conference partners from Europe, the United States and Asia, and devotes panels to Latin-America and data protection, and biometrics in India. This year, CPDP is particularly reaching out the Asia-Pacific, with speakers coming from all over the region.
To reach a wider audience, CPDP organizes the well-known classic Pecha Kucha side event, special sessions for young researchers and several public evening debates in both English and Flemish. CPDP will also remain home to several award ceremonies such as the EPIC's International Champion of Freedom award and the Multidisciplinary Privacy Award.
Since 2011, CPDP has exhibited privacy, surveillance and new technologies-related art. The 2013 art exhibition, "A Look Inside", was a great success and some of the works will be exhibited again this year. This year, CPDP is working together with Constant Association for Art and Media to bring you part of the exhibition "Are You Being Served". The artists come from all over Europe and ask themselves the question: 'Who does that server really serve?'
