SIR 2015: Focus on interventional radiology innovation, collaboration

The Society of Interventional Radiology's (SIR's) Annual Scientific Meeting, the world's most comprehensive meeting dedicated to research in image-guided, minimally invasive medicine, takes place Feb. 28 through March 5 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Expected to attract more than 5,000 doctors, researchers and allied health professionals, SIR 2015 features more than 200 scientific sessions and 125 technical exhibits and product demonstrations. Attendees will be equipped with current data on breakthrough treatments for numerous diseases and conditions including cancer, uterine fibroids, and venous and peripheral arterial disease.

"The SIR Annual Scientific Meeting centers on providing the most comprehensive interventional radiology program possible," said Jafar Golzarian, M.D., FSIR, the meeting's program chair. "This year's program has been strategically informed by the multidimensional nature of our specialty, the range of environments in which we practice and the array of individuals with whom we collaborate," he noted. In 'SIR Meets,' an exciting new session series, SIR will collaborate with other specialties through their societies to explore topics and numerous treatment options.

SIR 2015's general sessions feature the specialty's top thought-leaders on major, often controversial, issues. This year's "Innovation, Macroeconomics and the Future of Minimally Invasive Therapies" will provide a discussion of the impact of changes in the health care ecosystem, while "Global Perspectives" will explore specialty dynamics around the world.

"Our goal is for all attendees to return home with the essential new tools, techniques and skills that will help grow and strengthen their clinical practice," added Golzarian, who is division head of interventional radiology and vascular imaging at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
