BATON ROUGE—From mystery meat to the lunch lady, Pennington Biomedical Research Center registered dietitian Cathy Carmichael will offer insight into the challenges and joys of school lunch at the LSU Science Café, on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The event will take place from 5-7 p.m. at the Varsity Theatre, 3353 Highland Road in Baton Rouge.

Research shows that children who eat school lunch consume more fruits and veggies than those who don't eat school lunch. Carmichael will share information on the importance of taste, nutrition, presentation and the school nutrition professionals serving school meals in this enlightening talk.

Carmichael is a registered dietitian at Pennington Biomedical, where she is one of the leaders of the Child Nutrition Team. She manages the Louisiana Fit Kids program aimed to increase access to healthy food and promote student wellness.

the LSU Science Café is open to the public and advance registration through Eventbrite is recommended. If you are attending in-person, please print your registration ticket or have it available on your electronic device upon arrival. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the talk begins at 6 p.m.

If you are attending virtually, access to the live event will be available through Facebook Live. A Facebook account is not required to view the event livestream. The event broadcast will be closed captioned, and a recording of the event will be made available on the LSU Research YouTube channel shortly after the event.
