July 9th, 2024

The EU-funded dRural project has entered its final quarter, revealing significant improvements in the quality of life for rural inhabitants through a digital marketplace platform. A video news release highlights the project's success in Extremadura (Spain) and Dubrovnik-Neretva (Croatia).

The dRural project, an EU-funded initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of life in rural areas, has entered its final quarter. The project introduces a digital marketplace for goods and services, showing promising results in the pilot regions of Gelderland Midden (Netherlands), Extremadura (Spain), and Dubrovnik-Neretva (Croatia).

A video news release—Reviving rural areas: the digital factor—showcases how the dRural platform is transforming the lives of rural inhabitants. The video provides an in-depth look at the activities of suppliers and consumers in the Spanish region of Extremadura and Croatia's Dubrovnik-Neretva County, highlighting the main challenges that are common to most European rural areas.

Both regions are dealing with ageing populations and striving to counteract depopulation. To increase their attractiveness and improve quality of life, they are testing innovative digital solutions through the dRural project. The platform has developed a virtual marketplace where users can sell their goods and ship their agricultural produce via a "Bla Bla Car-style" transport service. Additionally, the platform facilitates connections with healthcare professionals, home-aids, and therapists, enhancing access to essential support services.

Moreover, two AI-based applications assist farmers in optimising their practices, leading to financial savings and environmental benefits. These technological advancements are integral to addressing the unique challenges faced by rural communities and improving their overall well-being.

The teaser of the video news release is available on the dRural YouTube channel and provides a comprehensive overview of the project's impact on local communities.
